St Andrews, Scotland is world famous for its golf course but did you know it has some wonderful golden sandy beaches too?

While growing up in Scotland St Andrews was our nearest beach and we loved our regular summer visits to the sea-side. With the car packed with picnic baskets, beach toys and old metal trays we all piled into the car and off we went. We always chose a sunny day, to compensate for the chill winds that usually blew in from the sea.
I am a country girl at heart and loved the open expanse of beach and sea, but it was the dunes I loved best. Remember the metal trays?  We used to 'toboggan' down the dunes on those trays and the area was always filled with the screams of delight from all the other children who were enjoying the same pass-time.

It is many years since I last visited the place and believe that tobogganing on the dunes, due to nature conservations, which I endorse, forbids that particular pastime these days. But I have the memory of the sand, the sun and the shrieks  of delight as we all slid merrily down those dunes.

Today I live even closer to the sea than I did as a child, so I still get to enjoy walks along stretches of sandy beaches. Or, in the other direction, explore the thousands of rock pools or study the red cliffs.

In my recent Christmas release Samantha Brown, a disillusioned portrait artist, hates Christmas as much as she loves being near the sea. And it on a wind-swept beach where Rafe Santini finds her on Christmas Day. but can he persuade Samantha that not all Christmases are bad, and that together they can make new, and wonderful memories of the holiday together?

For Christmas this year I'd like to have all of my family get together and for everyone to be healthy. Everything else can be bought but good times can't.

I grew up in Scotland in a small village outside Aberdeen and we lived a stones through away from the beach. Deep snow in winter but glorious sunshine in the summer, lots of picnics and running down sand dunes...good memories :) Great blog, Sherry :)

Thanks Dilys we lived near Loch Leven and used to skate across to the castle in the winter while the adults competed in Curling. Thanks for coming by.
